KAMCHATKA – brief history of the Nature Protection.
The first areas for protection of Nature were established on the Kamchatka in
the end of the XIX century. By efforts from the political immigrant Dibovskiy
and local community of the Petropavlovsk region in 1882 was organized some kind
of Reserve for protection and conservation the population of sable, rain –
deer and wild sheep.
In 1917, by order from Russian Government, the same territory was confirmed
like a State Nature Reserve “ Kronockiy “.
Nowadays it’s one of the biggest Nature Reserve in Russia and in 1996 it
was moved under protection of UNESCO as the World Nature Heritage.
In mean time at the Kamchatka region there are more then ninety special areas
with different status for protection of Nature.
The “ Commander Islands “State Nature Reserve
The Commander Islands Nature Reserve was established in 1993 under Federal
Low. It includes both of the big Islands: Bering and Medniy; some small ones and
seawater areas which surrounded the Islands ( about thirty miles wide ).
Actually, it’s one of the biggest Sea Nature Reserve in Russia.
In the beginning of November, 2002 the Commander Islands Nature Reserve was
putting to the special list for protection under UNESCO, like a World Nature
Heritage.
